Why support this effort? According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in the United States alone, every nine seconds a woman is battered by her husband, boyfriend, or live-in partner. Children who experience family violence are up to 10 times more likely to be abusive as adults; 70 percent of children whose mothers are battered are beaten as well. Of the homeless women and children in the U.S., half of them are likely to be fleeing domestic violence.
